Chefchaouen is best approached without a long list of stops. The blue-washed lanes of its medina are the focus, but the town also makes sense as a place to pause in the Rif Mountains rather than rush through for a photograph.

ChapterWalk the medina slowly

Start around the central square and explore the connected lanes on foot. Allow time for small shops, craftwork and a meal. Streets are lived-in spaces as well as visitor routes, so be considerate when photographing homes and people.

ChapterLook beyond the blue walls

Spend part of the visit noticing the mountain backdrop and the town outside the most photographed alleys. A second day gives you room for a longer walk or simply a quieter morning without trying to cover everything on arrival day.

ChapterPlan the journey

Chefchaouen is often reached overland from another Moroccan city. Check current bus or private transport options and leave enough daylight to settle in. Comfortable shoes matter more than a packed schedule on the medina's stepped streets.
